Verizon, AT&T stop practice of selling cell phone locations

Verizon and AT&T recently announce that both celluar providers will stop providing information on cell phone owner’s locations to data brokers.

Previously, data brokers were allowed to pinpoint the location of a wireless device with the owner’s knowledge or consent.

The change will not disrupt user’s “beneficial services,” such as fraud prevention and emergency roadside assistance, and won’t prevent the sharing of a user’s location directly with apps and other services.
